Northern Virginia Community College’s Alexandria Campus will host Elect Her, the College-wide training program encouraging women students to run for student government and to consider a future in politics. The program was created in an effort to diminish the political leadership gender gap for women. The training program will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24 in Room 158 of the Bisdorf Building on the Alexandria Campus.

Elect Her, also referred to as NOVA Women Win!, is a collaboration with the American Association of University Women (AAUW), Running Start and the NOVA-Alexandria Women’s Center. This year, speakers include Howard University Student Body President Allyson Carpenter and Founder and CEO of iLead Strategies Julie Jakopic. She Should Run Executive Director Clare Bresnahan will facilitate the training event.

According to AAUW, many of the thousands of Elect her alumnae have taken the skills and tools they learned from the leadership training program and used it to launch successful campaigns for student government positions and even local office.

Elect Her is free, lunch will be provided and women from all NOVA campuses are invited to register. However, seating is limited to 50 students. For additional information about Elect Her and to register to participate, contact Pat Gordon at [email protected].
