CALL FOR LOCAL COMMITTEE REORGANIZATION
Manassas and Manassas Park Cities Democratic Committee

Pursuant to the authority provided by the Virginia Democratic Party Plan, the Manassas and Manassas Park Cities Democratic Committee (MMPCDC) hereby calls an assembled caucus beginning at 7:15 pm on January 19, 2022, online via a Zoom event.   The purpose of the caucus will be to elect the members and then the officers of the Manassas and Manassas Park Cities Democratic Committee for the 2022-2023 biennium.

I. Candidate Filings:            

Each person seeking election as a member of the Manassas and Manassas Park Cities Democratic Committee shall file a membership application form prior to the start of the caucus. Persons seeking election as an officer (chair or co-chair, vice chair, secretary, or treasurer) should notify the nominating committee by emailing [email protected] or by calling the 571-358-9893.

Membership application forms may be obtained by email at [email protected] or can be downloaded as either a fillable PDF form or a Microsoft Word document .

The application form and the $30 filing fee must be received by 5:00 PM EST on Saturday, January 15, 2022, by either U.S. Mail at P.O. Box 4041, Manassas, VA 20108; by email at [email protected]; or by personal delivery (call 571-358-9893 to arrange).   The $30 filing fee may be paid in cash, by personal check, or by credit card at our secure ActBlue webpage. The Zoom event information will be provided upon receipt of the application.

Individuals who cannot afford the filing fee may obtain a confidential waiver by contacting a Co-Chair at [email protected].

II. Notice:

The Manassas and Manassas Park Cities Democratic Committee shall provide notice of this reorganization by placement of a general notice of the meeting, specifying the caucus date, time, and location/virtual platform, along with this Call, on the Democratic Party of Virginia and MMPCDC websites; by email notification to the 2020-2021 members of the Manassas and Manassas Park Cities Democratic Committee; through a press release provided to all relevant print and online publications of general circulation in Manassas and Manassas Park; and through other reasonable means that will disseminate information about the caucus to registered voters in Manassas and Manassas Park Cities. In addition, reasonable actions shall be taken to promote participation in the caucus in accordance with the Affirmative Action provisions of the Virginia Democratic Party Plan.

III. Participation:

Every Democrat who is a registered voter in the Cities of Manassas or Manassas Park is urged to attend and participate.   Each participant must sign a written declaration the he or she:

  • Is a Democrat and not a member of any other political party;
  • Does not intend to support any candidate who is opposed to a Democratic nominee in any general or special election during the 2022-2023 biennium;
  • Is registered to vote in the Cities of Manassas or Manassas Park.

Affirmative Action:

It shall be the duty and goal of all members of the MMPCDC to seek out and encourage the broadest possible participation within the committee, and in its membership, of all duly qualified citizens without regard to race, sex, age, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, ethnic identity, disability, or economic status.

IV. Conduct of Caucus

The Zoom event for the caucus will start at 6:30 pm and the proceedings will begin at 7:15 pm.

A Co-Chair of the MMPCDC, or his or her designee, shall be the Temporary Chair of the Caucus and shall appoint a Temporary Secretary and such other Officers of the Caucus as is deemed appropriate. The MMPCDC will prepare Temporary Rules for the Caucus. Participants will adopt permanent Rules for the Caucus.
